David Boreanaz - my favorite actor

David Boreanaz - my favorite actor

This picture is so fitting for my blog for many reasons.

First, the man looks like he will beat you down if you cross what he's protecting. So, hey, it can't hurt to have him around right?

Second, he's pretty darn easy on the eyes.

Third, he happens to be my favorite actor.

For most red (or hot) blooded American women, and probably more than a few men, this guy has been a recognizable face on TV for 10 years. He was cast as an extra for the pilot of Buffy but his undeniable appeal and developing talent led to a spinoff show, Angel, helmed by the man himself.

I was a very hot blooded high schooler when he hit. How did I miss this?

But, alas, miss him I did. It wasn't until this year, that I discovered the talents and appeal of Mr. Boreanaz, via the show Bones. My husband used DB to get me to watch Buffy and Angel and now, much to his chagrin, he's stuck with the consequences.

I promise this page will encompass much more than Bones and David Boreanaz, but lets get the important things out of the way first!

Actors Share, but do we really want to know?

Actors Share, but do we really want to know?

As glamorous as the life seems, it must be frustrating to be a public figure. On the one hand, you might be fabulously rich and adored, but the downsides aren't always easily dismissed.

Most of the downsides can be grouped under one category: privacy.

Famous people simply can't afford it. To a very large, expansive extent it is very true that you can't have bad press. They need to be seen, visible, vocal and approachable to stay in the news and win fan hearts. If this means they are unable to take their kids to the park without cameras or grocery shop in peace, they accept it and move on.

And the fans clamor ever for more and more and MORE! They want news, photos, interviews, personal information. Every new piece feeds the craving for more. Eventually, most stars give in. They take their child out, they tell stories about their lives, their politics and their wives. And the fans eat it up.

Sometimes, with the information comes things you don't want to know. I, for one, hate knowing the politics of my favorite stars (David Boreanaz, please never proclaim yours, thanks!). I still, fairly well, work hard to tune out George Clooney's proclivities. And he's generally not that invasive with them. He knows what the public wants and what it doesn't. Unfortunately, I'm fairly ruined on Alec Baldwin. He's not only insistent on his politics, he's demanding and even offensive in his choice. So be it.

One very recent example of this "oops, did I really want to know that?" problem is an interview Eliza Dushku did just this week on Jimmy Kimmel live. She proudly proclaimed her hunting activities. It's no surprise that PETA has already jumped on her, spouting a figure claiming that 95% of Americans oppose hunting.

Really? Are they excluding everything from South Carolina through, Texas?

I'll admit that I support the right, even the activity, to hunt. She's not doing it for pure sport or evil, she ate what she killed. And, beyond that, she makes a fantastic point: If you're willing to eat meat you should have no problem with hunting. I, personally, can't smoosh a bug without qualms. But I do eat meat and fully realize the consequences of how the process works.

I'm sure there has been a mixed response to her proclamation, from "Go Eliza!", to "How dare she?" to the invariable "That's so hot!" from many red-blooded, gun totin' men out there. I would hazard that even a few liberal men jumped at watching her handle that bow.

I don't envy the fishbowl the actors inhabit. We, as fans peer in, looking for more and more details, and we will always hit the point where we find out more than we wished to know.

DVR, Sweet DVR...How much will I love thee?

DVR, Sweet DVR...How much will I love thee?

Tomorrow, a revolution in our household:

DVR arrives!

I hear from everyone how fantastic this will be, that it will change our TV-lives, nigh, our actual, complete lives!

Really?

I'm actually new to consistent TV consumption. Newly returned, I should say. Growing up I watched the A-Team, Star Trek: the Next Generation...yep, geek. And proud!

But for a good chunk of years I basically ignored TV. My husband and I watched LOST, and then Heroes, but otherwise the TV was that thing that played those shiney disks we'd watch over and over.

Thing change, suddenly you have free time and with the advent of online episodes (I heart HULU) you suddenly see a new and spiffy world of shows and characters you barely knew. During the writer's strike, wouldn't it be like me to pick up an interest in TV when no new shows are being produced, I discovered many great gems - Bones, NCIS, House, and more.

It didn't take me long to realize that antenna show viewing, with bad reception to boot, just wouldn't cut it.

So, tomorrow, we get Dish network. And a shiney, new, life-changing DVR. I'm fair giddy with excitement over the prospect of actually watching good quality TV live. When Bones returned from the strike, I never really felt like I'd seen the show properly until the next day, when I could watch it online with crystal clear quality.

How much am I going to love this? I know one thing - it will keep the peace on Wednesday nights. I may chose Bones, but my husband choses Pushing Daisies. A house divided, reunited!

How will Bones fare without Zack?

How will Bones fare without Zack?

Time is fast approaching for the Season 4 premier of my personal favorite show: Bones. But how will it measure up, after losing a beloved cast member?

Like many shows this past season, Bones ended with a bang. Literally. Explosion, harm, mental anguish and everything. When the smoke cleared and the clues were tallied, Zack was lost. He lives, but he's likely forever to be squirreled away in a mental institution, paying for his crime.

Showrunner and creator Hart Hanson has promised that we haven't seen the last of him, but the show will be unavoidably different. Gone forever are the fun lab experiments with Hodgins, the continual moments where Zack misunderstands most everything around him, and the times when he blows over everyone's head with obscure facts and extensive knowledge.

We will see Zack again, but I for one, hope his appearances are not cheesy or contrived. Let's not have the mad genius in the hospital. Let's have a lost man-child figuring out what he did wrong and rebounding from it.

Many fans reacted with extreme anger to the plot. I accept it, knowing there were mishandlings of certain points, and wish to move on. I love this show and hope the controversy and press bring increased viewers and a higher standard for the show writing. Until this plot very little brought fan dislike and anger out like this plot has. Let's hope the adage proves true and that the negative press will result in exactly what matters in TV: butts in front of TVs!

What do you do when favorites suddenly become competitors?

What do you do when favorites suddenly become competitors?

I have a problem: I like two fantastic shows that are now directly time-slot competitors. It's Bones vs Pushing Daisies, and I'm caught in the middle.

The answer of which I must favor is not in doubt: Bones wins, hands down. That doesn't mean I don't feel guilty about it.

In actuality, I have this problem x2. House and NCIS are also scheduled to fight each other on Tuesday nights this fall. I don't yet know which I will watch.

Thank God for the DVR. For the first time in my 3 year marriage we are hooking up a TV service. Tomorrow! Don't ask me what I'll do if 3 favorites decide to duke it out. I hestitate to contemplate!
